Waddell Nejam always loved real estate. As a young adult attending Mississippi College, he began forming the concept of what would later become Nejam Properties, LLC. His dream was to give back to his beloved community of Jackson, MS by buying historic properties and preserving and maintaining them in order to rent out. Waddell’s ultimate goal was to revitalize the historic areas of Belhaven and Belhaven Heights in Jackson and restore them into thriving neighborhoods. Over the next many years, AW Nejam honed his craft and soon had a successful property management business, Nejam Properties. Yet he still wanted to do more than just make money and offer economically viable housing. He wanted to help his community. So he joined with other Jackson, MS community members and started a non-profit fully committed to the renovation and preservation of valued historic properties, some of which are on the National Historic Register. The Greater Belhaven Foundation non-profit facilitates and sustains plans for the Belhaven neighborhoods that enable an adaptive approach to modern living merged with the preservation of history.
